Derek Ball obtained his J.D. in 2017 from the University of Victoria.
During his time at the University of Victoria, he worked as a researcher for the National Action Committee on Civil and Family Justice and volunteered as a housing advocate. He also spoke at the McGill Transatlantic Dialogues on Canada-European Union relations, and contributed to a SPARC BC research project focusing on trauma-informed practices in the justice sector. He was the recipient of a prize in Community Law for his work at the University’s Law Centre, which included representing clients in criminal court, before the Social Security Tribunal, and at BC Human Rights Tribunal mediation conferences.
